Dressing up a Dresser

One of the most neglected spaces so far in our apartment, decorating-wise, is our bedroom.  It was the least decorated room in our old apartment as well.  Here is our current layout:

(I know you are jealous of my mad MS Paint skills)  So, we have our bed in front of the giant window in our bedroom.  The red squares are our nightstands, the brown rectangle is our wardrobe.  The gaint half hourglass looking thing represents the doors to the closet.  The small blue thing is my hamper.  And the green rectangle represents my new project, the tricked out Malm dresser.

I saw an awesome post about O’Verlays, these awesome fretwork panels that can be added onto furniture to customise the look.  They are made in standard sizes that fit a lot of IKEA furniture– it sounded perfect!

You can’t tell me those pieces don’t look awesome.  And less like plain old Malm IKEA dressers.

So, after pinning it onto my Pinterest board and a few days of checking out Craigslist, I have found a white IKEA Malm 3 drawer dresser to go in our “green rectangle space” above.  Now the only question is which O’Verlay to get and what color to paint it?

Our bedding is neutral whites and browns from Macy’s hotel collection.

Our nightstands are red (IKEA Hemnes).

Our wardrobe is dark brown (IKEA Elga with mirrored middle door)

And our curtains are a solid dark brown (blackout curtains).

I feel like this calls for some amazing color on this dresser.  What do you guys think?  The comments section is officially open for suggestions… D and I both like the look of the interlocked circle pattern in the example picture above.

I love the greek key ones, so that would be my choice. Good luck!! I want to hear all about them!

I love the interlocking circles. A fun color would really make it stand out.
